What this archive is built on, how confidence is judged, and where it has been wrong before.

Alexandra Freeman (forum username “MissPingu”), July 2026. Main identification established; current-condition and technical enquiries remain open.

Publication

Initial findings were published on CoasterForceunder the title “Wicksteed Park's original Double Pirate Ship has been found” (July 2026). The exact Kosovo location was initially redacted while enquiries continued, and only a selection of images was published.

Evidence standards

  • Each major claim was logged and tested independently rather than merged into a single assumed narrative (the claim register).
  • Seller-written material, including the Marketplace listing, was treated as one piece of evidence to compare against other sources, not as independent proof.
  • Metadata (timestamps, location tags, upload dates) was checked against visible environmental features and other independently dated material, not accepted as infallible on its own.
  • Witness questioning was kept narrow before disclosing the full alternative theory, to avoid reshaping recollection through leading questions.
  • No single piece of evidence was treated as sufficient alone. The identification rests on convergence between multiple independent lines of evidence.
  • Working theories that did not hold up were abandoned before publication, rather than adjusted to fit.

Image and video rights

This site distinguishes three states for its media: images and video the researcher captured or screenshotted herself during the investigation ("researcher's collection"), screenshots of third-party public posts, listings or video used here for identification and research purposes without a publication licence from the rights holder ("third-party screenshot"), and slots for Wicksteed-era photographs that have not been sourced at all yet ("awaiting rights clearance"). Every image and video on the site states which of these applies, alongside caption, date, source, location, archive reference and a verification note.

Research ethics

  • The first-hand Wicksteed source is not named, in keeping with how their account was originally protected during the investigation.
  • The seller, Agron, was contacted transparently, was told the purpose was historical research rather than a purchase enquiry, and has not had private communications published beyond what is summarised in the source findings.
  • A crane hire company contacted about historical records was quoted only on the substance of their reply (that no early records survive); their direct personal contact details were not published alongside this archive.
  • The Rundle's witness is discussed factually and without mockery. The investigation's conclusion is about the ride's likely misidentification, not about the witness's honesty.
  • Working theories not published as findings (such as the Fantasiana theory) are documented here as abandoned theories, clearly separated from established conclusions.

Correction history

Working theories may change. Here is where this project has been wrong, and what changed as a result.

  • Bumper-car TikTok video rejected as a false match

    A newly uploaded clip initially appeared to show a Pirate Ship at Lunapark Aseba. Closer comparison of angle, building decoration, the neighbouring ride and support-structure position showed it did not match, and the initial interpretation was publicly corrected.

  • Fantasiana origin theory abandoned

    A theory that the Rundle's Pirate Ship came from Fantasiana in Austria was abandoned once research showed the relevant Fantasiana attraction was a Wild Swing, not a Pirate Ship. It was not published as a finding.

  • Geographic description of Kosovo corrected

    Early references were corrected to describe Kosovo accurately as part of southeastern Europe / the Balkans, not the Middle East.
